Under the auspices of H.E Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Eng. Tarek El molla, New Alamein city, Egypt hosted SEG symposium - Mediterranean Gas Exploration "Where is the next Zohr" on May, 2023 with more than 130 participants representing 40 Companies from 8 countries.
The symposium was successful to bring together regional and international experts, decision-makers, and investors to discuss the exploration potential of the Mediterranean basin, which has a rich and complex petroleum system with plays ranging from Jurassic to recent. Moreover, it addressed the challenges and opportunities of carbon capture and utilization techniques (CCUS) to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 or sooner.
EUG team successfully held a technical presentation titled Carbonates Buildup Distribution & Its Regional Seismic Significance, Levantine basin, East Mediterranean, Egypt. During the workshop, the team gave a regional overview of the Cretaceous in East Mediterranean, Cretaceous carbonate facies variation, and how to recognize Carbonate buildup on seismic and examples.
In addition to a technical poster about Unlocking Deeper Hydrocarbon Potentiality by Regional Seismic Gas Chimneys Modeling, Mediterranean, Egypt. The poster highlighted the origin of gas chimneys is related to hydraulic fracturing by gas leaking through faults from deep accumulation where overpressure conditions have been generated by fast burial. The main contribution of this work is to provide a regional detailed seismic reflection image supported by seismic attributes and well logs analysis to show evidence for the gas chimneys supporting the gas channels on a regional scale in the Mediterranean to be supported by the dry hole analysis for the drilled wells where it's in the chimneys pathway or not that are in contact with the boundaries of the gas chimneys.
